new paintings - shades of grey and blue
It is a great joy to paint in my studio this winter. The new roof and skylight fitted last summer means I can work in comfort on the coldest of days, no dripping ceiling and clearer natural light.
This painting is ready to go to the gallery later this week. 'Pale and Still, Compton Bay' was inspired by a walk to the far end of Compton Beach on a grey day in January. The tide was far out and the sand still wet, the sky reflected pale and still, the chalk cliffs, looming faintly in the distance and the sea barely differentiated from the water at my feet or the pale horizon miles away.
